We thank you God for the gift of sport. It is indeed a wonderful way
to forge friendships and for weeding away youngsters from bad habits.
But it also leads to enmity and unwanted competition.
We pray Jesus that the football world cup leads to people coming together in harmony and love. May games lead to countries and people understanding one another rather than only playing out their rivalry on the field. Lead teams well to play fairly and enjoy the game and the atmosphere instead of playing to win at any cost.

Guide us well Holy Spirit so that we don't sacrifice friendships for
the sake of team support. May this world cup experience help us to
introduce sport into our religious spaces so that our youngsters choose
health over non healthy and destructing habits. May we see the goodness
in sport as something which can lead to a stronger spirituality. Amen.
